Colonel Roger Smith!
On April 17, 2009, Tower of Power appeared at the Norton Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Centre College, in Danville, Kentucky. Roger and the other nine members of the band were honored by the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the honorable Steven L. Beshear, by being commissioned as Kentucky Colonels. This is an honorary title bestowed upon selected individuals based upon the nominee's service and contributions to the global community. Past recipients include President Lyndon Johnson, General Omar Bradley, Muhammed Ali, Tiger Woods, Sir Winston Churchill, Bob Hope, Clark Gable, and many, many more individuals recognized nationally and internationally for their contributions to society.
Each member of the band received a framed certificate. Roger wants all his fans and friends in Kentucky (and around the world) to know and understand how deeply moved and honored he is to be a recipient of this special recognition. Here is Roger with his certificate:
